Capital Campaign (Crossroads Church)

As the business and its needs expanded, we realized that to continue to provide bigger and better services for more people, do more outreach within the local community and around the world, to create the right environment not just for the growth of individuals but also a community that we would need more capital. This would be our third major capital campaign as a church and so in the spirit of the first two, we called it “Building for Tomorrow 3.0” or “BFT 3.0.”

Starting in February of 2017, the goal was to raise $1,000,000 over two years. By June of 2019, we raised $736,263. While that number was not met, it’s still allowed us to make improvements to our building, hire new staff, invest in physical assets to improve our services, send teams around the globe, and foster a stronger, better community. We might not have hit the number, but the goal has been and is continuing to be met.

I was the lead graphic designer and one of the marketers on the project. Below are some of the major pieces of the project.

Branding | Brochures | Newsletters | Final Result

Branding

Working in collaboration with our pastors and staff, I did an initial set of passes at the logo based upon some initial drawings by one of our staff members.

We decided on the second one and, after more collaboration, this is what we decided on:

Out of this design, came the rest of the materials including interior banners and tie-ins for a Night of Worship (live music night) and Day of Prayer.

Brochures

Now that we had a design, we needed to start the campaign. We started with a meeting for all those who wished to be volunteer leaders in this campaign, and, after a kick off on a Sunday morning for the whole church, sent out brochures.

SAMPLES COMING SHORTLY

Newsletters

As follow ups, we sent out four newsletters to keep people updated. I was responsible for the design work. We had two versions. Here’s a sample of the second newsletter: a PDF we emailed out and a printed version.

Final Result

By June of 2019, we have raised over $730,000 dollars.

It should be noted that this was rarely put on any of our social media and with good reason. The demographic that we try to reach are people who did not grow up in church, who do not like church, who are distrustful of church, who have been hurt by church. BFT 3.0’s mission was, in part, to improve an environment where that would happen. For our forward facing social media to be asking for money would have been counter productive in that regard. Instead, all communication was internal or on Sunday mornings where we had full control of the messaging and the environment in which it was received.

Aside from some of the big changes we were able to make, we were able to hire a few new pastors and give a raise to one of our employees. Here are some of the big changes we were able to make:

Cafe

The cafe is the place where people gather, eat donuts, drink coffee, talk, and create that all important community. Between it’s yellow walls and it’s linoleum tiles, it was in need of an upgrade:

After working with professional designers, using the funds raised by BFT 3.0, we were able to give it a much needed, facelift:

Stage

One of the major projects was a revamp of our stage to provide a top-notch production experience.

The final product included a bigger stage, more lights, hazers (to fill the room with haze so the lights could be seen), additional production equipment in the production booth, and more. The final result of the funds raised through the BFT 3.) campaign has been quite nice.

Rwanda & Burundi Teams

Because of the funds we raised, Crossroads has been able to go to the African countries of Burundi and Rwanda six times so far with more trips in the works. The goal has been to partner with local churches to be a part of a healthy church movement throughout their countries. We’ve been able to do training and teaching in pursuit of that.

That $736,000 has gone to good use and we currently still have some left in reserves for rainy days and other projects.
